I think you are right to to express concern. I am beginning to sense that the American curse extends beyond its borders. Sadly, the UK, as a US client state, is already feeling the undertow of Trumpianism sucking at its freedoms. I hope countries outside the anglosphere are less affected...
I think we all have a right to comment on - and be concerned about - US politics. The US has set itself as “the leader of the free world” for decades, it has been accepted as the leader of the west and has made corresponding demands on the rest of us accordingly. That gives us all skin in the US game.
Donald Trump’s playing with tariffs and markets has affected us all directly, and you in Canada, Jillian, more than many of us reading you.
The recent federal election in Canada was all about Trump's tariffs and annexation threats, and led to an unprecedented fourth term for the Liberals, who were on track to be wiped out in the election before Trump came in. He and Musk cost the Conservatives a sure election win. So, the Liberals are grateful, even if Trump and Musk didn't intend to have such an influence on the election.
But I am more concerned here with not running afoul of the changes happening in the U.S. right now. If that country chooses a more conservative, prudish path, that is their choice. Canadians have very clearly chosen our path, and I'll happily blog and write newsletters on a Canadian-based site where I am not at risk of offending American censors.
I'll leave it at that. I am not judging the path that Americans have chosen by electing the Trump administration. But the days of America being "the leader of the free world" and "the west" are over, from what I can see, by its own choice. It's their decision.
I've been wondering the same thing. For years now, I've been translating and posting English-language "naturist" web-comics such as Jay042's "Kaza's mate, Gwenna" and Reinder Dijkhuis' comic "Rogues of Clwyd-Rhan" (with their authors' permission) into French.

Perhaps it would be better to use a blogging or similar platform based outside of that or any other similar 9/14 Eyes groupings.

I will make it easy for you. You write and edit the content, and I will put it on the website. We can use my domain for now and if the Republicans get their way we can just move the website to a Canadian hosting provider.
Thanks, Steve.I am still thinking about all this and weighing options.I do like substack and I have no desire to boycott American websites, but the free speech issue is a concern and I will be monitoring developments in the U.S. on that front. Meanwhile, I will explore some of the options you provided.
I live in a public nudity sort of acceptance bubble in San Francisco, at least in my neighborhood. Recently, I have felt more respect for public nudity here.
From decades of public nudity activism, I have found way more respect from the libertarian wing of the Republican party than from the just as great or greater social control of urban Democrat Party machines. Also, Melania Trump, during her modeling career, did many nude photo shoots. I find it interesting that her nude images were up on Google images in 2016, but have been largely taken down.
I can't really judge which way the wind blows nationally, but I can give you these observations.
I have experienced 0 restrictions of freedom under Trump. Freedom of speech has been restored unless you're illegal and supporting terrorists with your speech but then you don't have the protection of our Constitution. Specifically what rights has anyone lost? Not generalities and emotional grenades cast by the media and other influencers.
You aren't paying attention. The Homeland Security department is cancelling the student visas of any student expressing speech that Trump doesn't like. The first amendment be damned.
One Republican congressman has introduced a bill that would rewrite the "Miller test" enacted in 1973 that defines pornography. Under his revisions, Playboy would be obscene and illegal. Mere nudity would be difficult to justify on any website.
Trump also ignores the 5th amendment that guarantees that "No person" will be denied due process. (Quoting the 5th amendment).
If the Republicans get their way, nudity on US websites will be illegal.
That guy tries this every few years. Did it under Biden and Trump before. Don't fall for the fear mongering. If Trump or his administration tries anything that takes away our rights, his base will turn on him so fast... He was elected to enforce the laws and protect our rights. May sound crazy to some of you, and I mean this as loving as possible, drank the kool-aid of the far Left and media. I admit it's hard to discern the truth when nearly everything you hear (both sides) is a lie. There are no easy answers. Watch what people do. Not what they say. Not what they say other people do.
Yes, the republicans have been trying since the Miller test was enacted in 1973. But this is the first time that the Republicans control all three branches of the Government. Worse, the Supreme Court majority have demonstrated their obsession with helping Trump with theocratic decisions. This will likely make it to Trumps desk this year.
Project 2025 includes proposals related to pornography, with a strong push toward criminalizing it. The initiative, backed by conservative groups, argues that pornography should be outlawed, and those who produce or distribute it should face legal consequences.
One of the key elements of Project 2025 is the Interstate Obscenity Definition Act (IODA), introduced by Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah). This bill seeks to redefine obscenity in a way that could ban online pornography nationwide by expanding the legal definition of what is considered obscene. The proposal removes community standards from the Miller obscenity test, meaning the federal government could impose a single national standard for what is considered illegal content.
Additionally, Project 2025 links pornography to broader cultural concerns, including transgender rights, LGBTQ content, and drag performances, arguing that these should also be restricted as illegal pornography.
The Republicans have been using Project 2025 pretty well verbatim.
I saw a report yesterday that Texas has banned pornhub — not that I ever look at that site, but it does seem to be part of a wider trend to crack down on both porn and the naked body.
I think that there is a link between states banning images of porn along with images of nudists as a means to crackdown on both porn and nudism. We've long had social nudism deliberately confused with sex by those who are against our way of life, along with the porn industry hijacking nudism as a label to tag its products with it has made nudism more difficult to promote as well as gain wider acceptance.
The age verification policies have merits if the aim is to keep kids away from porn. They are also a way of tracking where we go online as individuals, nudists risk being branded as heavy porn users through repeated visits to nudist websites.
With some of the steps being taken in the UK to 'safeguard' people online - Online Safety act etc, where age verification is being introduced the actual verification sites proposed were ones that are ultimately owned by the porn industry! They had the setups because they've been supposed to check ages of users in some jurisdictions, so I guess it was a likely source of the mechanisms, but safeguarding kids etc through enriching porn merchants doesn't sit that well with critics.
Yet, there are many Trump/Republican supporters among the naturism/nudism community in the U.S. And judging from some of their responses here, they do not seem to be worried about a crackdown on naturism sites by the current U.S. government.
Texas didn't ban PornHub. Texas did what Florida did and passed a law that the site had to do age verifications before letting people view pornography. PornHub decided to not let people from Texas IPs connect to their servers.
Thanks for clarifying that for me. Obviously, the headline I saw was incorrect. I would have thought age verification would be a given for sites like pornhub.
Full context--I'm a Christian man. 52y/o. "Conservitarian" Conservative + Libertarian
I'm for and against a lot of things but I believe in the founding principles of this nation. Do as you please until you interfere with my rights. We can't legislate morality or murder wouldn't exist. Golden rule always works.
I have lost most hope for the "religious" folks. They generally fall into the same category as the Left or the Right does. Of course I'm speaking in generalities. They were told/taught something to be factual that was never stated or implied in the Bible or culture convinced them it was true and never questioned it for themselves. I was very "challenging" for my parents. I asked "why" about everything. Not to question their authority but to find out why. 😂 Some of my past bosses were none to happy with me either. Christianity aside, even non-believers fall into the same trap. Without an effort to discover the truth we're doomed to be lead to someone else's hell if we don't question things.
You're falling for the "because it's not happening to me yet it's not happening at all" small minded way of thinking. Trump and Republicans are violating the constitution, violating people's constitutional rights, and are pushing farther and farther into fascist control over people's lives. This will hit you if it isn't stopped. It will hit every American sooner or later. If you're a nudist it will harm your right to be socially nude in public places like clubs, resorts, and beaches.
Not quite. I don't know anyone personally that has lost any rights and I can't trust the media to tell me the sky is blue. Half of the shit that I research when I see some atrocity reported comes back entirely made up. The other half grossly taken out of context. I'm might be an asshole but I'm never a sheep.
We are right to be concerned. But a backlash is building. Nationwide protests, judges blocking many of his actions (and his ignoring them, which raises more outrage), Congresspeople taking to social media to protest, major institutions such as Harvard refusing to toe his line... It's sure not all going his way. And he's not all that healthy...
We've taken our freedoms for granted for too long. Yet when we begin to see things like ICE raids in our schools, churches and offices, Social Security checks not coming--I sense we will rise up and remember "government of the people, by the people, for the people..."
What I don't know is whether the naturists here will be emboldened to demand our bare rights in whatever new reality replaces the current one.
Is there a subset of Mastadon or Naturist Hub that we could gather Canadians to? I hear what you are saying and would like to participate in any Canadian initiatives that celebrate clothes-free living for the right reasons.
I think anyone hosting a publication based on a U.S. site these days needs to be aware of the tidal shift that is happening in that country, and to be careful -- whether it is a large publication or a small-fry newsletter like this one. For individual subscribers, there is little risk, beyond the obvious. But the publishers need to be wary.
I'm glad to hear that. My post has drawn a lot of comments (for this newsletter), and there appears to be a lot of confusion on the subject. So, it is good to hear some optimism!
I see nothing being done by the Trump administration that intends to abridge free speech. The closest they get is trying to rein in systematic viewpoint discrimination by social media sites, such as we saw happen during the covid pandemic, where even advocating for a particular drug not endorsed by the government could get someone banned on Facebook or Twitter. Silencing the press, public, and media has long been one of the main tools of the left. "Cancel culture" is a Democrat policy. You have zero to worry about unless you advocate for violence against people or the government. It was the Biden Administation that sought to set up the "Disinformation Governance Board," an Orwellian plan if ever there was one.
Chuck, I understand what you are saying as I live in Georgia, a very conservative state. But you are wrong about Trump, he is not a conservative, its clear he is only interested in what is good for him and will do or say anything to keep his power. He is much more dangerous than any left wing liberal. I would tell you to look at what happened to the German people. Trump is taking the pages he follows right out of the Nazi playbook.
Let's say for arguments sake that Trump wants to be the next Hitler (I can't even type that without laughing). He would have to take away our guns. How the hell do you think he's going to pull that shit off? He can't! It's utter nonsense to even think something like that.
Kenyon, Germany was a democratic nation after World War I, very liberal and got deep into debt because of having to pay under the terms of the treaty for WWI. The rise of the Nazi party was from a small fringe group that were dismissed by most. But if you compare how they got into power in a democratic country you can see similarities to the rise of the right wing of the Republican party in the US. I'm not saying the Republicans are Nazi's. I'm an old guy and have voted for Republicans in the passed. But its clear under Trump the party has changed. I hope I am wrong and that my concerns are off base but some pretty smart historians have done the comparisons of how the Trump administration and Project 2025 are following a similar path that the Nazi party followed. Look at Trump's threats to businesses like his recent attacks on Apple and his threats to put tariffs on their products if they don't follow his message. He rules by threats and intimidation and expects others to comply or he will take revenge by using the justice department, tariffs or any other means. He has no respect for the law or for rulings by federal judges that he doesn't like. He never takes responsibility for his actions when things go wrong. Its always someone elses fought. He doesn't believe in equal rights for all Americans. The similarities of pre WWII Germany and Trump are there. Hitler didn't start by taking on Jews. He did so many things before to erode the trust in government and build up to the point he could have ultimate power. Hopefully he can be restrained and it will never reach anywhere close to the state of Germany in the 1930s but we need to have our eyes open. The fact he is doing things like using his time to sell his influence by things like crypto currency should be a concern to everyone. In the book "How Democracies Die" The authors detail the subtle erosion of institutions and unspoken democratic norms that slowly allow autocracy to take hold. Drawing examples from around the world, they argue that polarization, inequality, and demographic shifts in America pose a grave risk to its democratic structures. Trump is the leader of those changes. I'm too old to have to worry about the lasting effect he will have on America but I have grandchildren and I fear they will not have the America of peace and the hope of prosperity I had growning up. I hope you are right and Donald Trump will be a great leader but his track record so far is not good. If you fear losing your guns, and I am a gun owner too, the person I fear the most is someone like Donald Trump. He only knows one thing and thats the desire for power and if someone or something gets in his way I think he will do whatever he can to cange the situation for his benefit. But then I'm just an old guy, what do I know. :)
That's utter nonsense and paranoia. You are only right to the extent that Trump is not a conservative but is rather moderate in many things. The Nazi trope is just rediculous even shameful. Look at the things Hitler did, gun control, eugenics, speech controls, government control of business and the press, those are all Democrat positions. Remember, Hitler was a Socialist -- it's right in his party's name.
Chuck, I respect your right to give your opinion. I believe Americans can disagree without disliking each other. I've spent many years researching, studying, and teaching history. Unfortunately in our public school system we teach popular history based on what politicians in state legislatures want taught. Hitler was a fascist. Fascism is a far-right political ideology and movement characterized by strong centralized control, a dictatorial leader, militarism, forcible suppression of opposition, and a belief in a natural social hierarchy. Please take time to consult some good reliable sources on his history. Saying Nazi's were socialist because its in their name is the same as saying North Korea is democratic or a republic because their official name is the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. North Korea is clearly a dictatorship. Hitler was even put into power under a democratic government and moved slowly to get where he ended up. He didn't just start as a dictator, it took years. He was conficted and jailed for trying to overthrow the government but wasn't really punished for that, he was let out early, wrote his book in prison, had a secretary and allowed to run for office when he got out of prison. But step by step he got be a fascist. He wanted power above all else. Trump wants power and money above all else. You haven't lost any rights because you may well be in his targeted accepted group of what an American is supposed to be. But millions of Americans are not. I believe in freedom and rights for all. Don't be surprised if you wake up one day and the folks that have his ear have convinced him to take action against nudist and restrict their rights. It starts slowly and builds. That's the pattern of fascist. Choose one group at a time to target. A group that most do not approve of and then get support and then build on that for the next group to target. Trans people were the first, who will be next? I feel all people have a right to freedom and rights, not just a few groups. Live and let live. Thanks for engaging in a conversation. I wish you well. Jeff
Jeff, thank you for your reply, although you make an erroneous assumption that I don't know my WWII history. I had the good fortune to be born a very long time ago and knew and worked with men and women who fought that war and even some Germans who lived through it. I have long been an enthusiast of WWI history, then WWII. The leftists in this country have been yelling "Republican" = Hitler since at least the Truman Administration. It's disgusting to make such a statement and wildly unrealistic. I don't fear anything the Trump Administration is doing but I very much feared what Obama/Biden did and what Democrats will do again when they finally return to power.
No. It's 920 pages, and I am certain few people have read it all. Frankly, conservatives are not even talking about Project 2025, it was only a policy proposal document from Heritage Foundation. There are many such things produced each year by conservative and liberal think-tanks. Democrat leadership decided to make it a boogeyman document to use against Trump even though he never supported it. Group-think Democrats fell right into line and let their paranoia run wild.
A summary of Project 2025 indicates it is primarily the standard conservative ideas of smaller government, less intrusive bureaucracy, lower taxes, border control, more parental control of schools, and reigning in systematic viewpoint discrimination on social media. I support all those things. Half the country seems to like what Trump doing. I know I do.
So, it's too long to read, so you will just decide without reading any of it that it isn't happening. The Republicans aren't talking about Project 2025 because it is the managing document, and it is working well for them.
Project 2025 was created and released by the Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank, with contributions from at least 100 conservative groups.
Some of the key authors include Russell Vought, who wrote a chapter on restructuring the executive branch, along with Peter Navarro, Brendan Carr, and Adam Candeub.
The project’s director is Paul Dans, who previously served as chief of staff at the U.S. Office of Personnel Management under Trump
Russell Vought: served as Trump’s Director of the Office of Management and Budget during his first term and has been considered for a return to the role2.
Peter Navarro: A longtime Trump aide, Navarro was selected as senior counselor for trade and manufacturing in Trump's administration.
Brendan Carr: Trump picked Carr to lead the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).
John Ratcliffe: Former Director of National Intelligence under Trump, Ratcliffe was tapped for CIA Director in Trump's administration.
Tom Homan: A contributor to Project 2025, Homan was chosen as Trump’s “border czar”.
While Trump publicly distanced himself from Project 2025 during his campaign, he has since appointed several of its contributors to key positions in his administration.

The description of "porn" in Project 2025 is broad, as is the bill introduced by Senator Mike Lee (R-Utah) which is almost verbatim text from Project 2025.
The text in the bill could make any nudity a federal crime.
READ Project2025; it will scare the crap out of you when you realize that the Trump administration is implementing policy from that book, starting with the low-hanging fruit- deportations. Porn and by association nudity isn't far behind .

El que se aplica aquellos países que son sancionados por no cumplir los perfiles democráticos de la administración Donald Trump

Hi. There are a few posts on the Planet Nude site. Here is one that got me wondering. https://www.planetnude.co/p/the-obscenity-is-the-bill
"That guy tries this every few years."
I, too, believe in the golden rule. I hope your optimism regarding the right to practise social nudism and naturism holds true. Cheers.
Please keep us informed the USA is going down fast!
Dispatch from the Reich:

Do you host a newsletter or blog about social nudism?
No. I am only active in a private naturist couples group on MeWe. The real threat is user censorship by sites like MeWe, Facebook, etc.
I host several Christian Naturist blogs and communities here in the US. Most of the members are also bloggers and authors. No fear here.
Not another one of these guys. 🤦🏽
You're not paying attention. Read Project 2025. It's online.
Did you forget about the great replacement theory? So many bats hit crazy think tank projects out there. A bunch of stuff on Lizard people too.
"Project 2025!" has been a wonderful boogeyman phrase for liberals.
Have you read it?

Nice cut and paste. I at least write my own stuff.
