As a Canadian looking in on the U.S. from north of its border, I’ve been struggling to get a handle on just where freedom of speech and expression is heading in America in general, and more specifically for sites like this one.
I’m seeing more and more reports of attempts in America to restrict freedom of expression, and some recent posts on Planet Nude have left me wondering if it will be safe for anyone to even talk about social nudism on American-based websites without fear of being accused of promoting obscenity and prosecuted. Will it be safe to be a subscriber to groups like this one?
I suspect naturism will survive in the United States, but that it will become more closeted as the people orchestrating Project 2025 crack down on public nudity on the web and well beyond.
To be honest, I am looking for a Canadian-based web host where I can set up The Naturism Community or a similar group. It is still early days in the Trump administration, and there is no way of knowing just how far they intend to go with restrictions on civil rights. Will it be considered obscene to even talk about social nudism on American-based sites? Will the architects of Project 2025 worry that naturism sites might be a bad influence on young people?
Again, I have no idea where America is heading — and as a Canadian, it is not my place to be commenting on American politics. But the personal concerns and fears have been nagging me to the point that I have curtailed my writing on American-based sites like substack and wordpress.
I’ll let you know if I find a Canadian-based site that would work for this group. If readers have any suggestions, feel free to leave a comment.

I think you are right to to express concern. I am beginning to sense that the American curse extends beyond its borders. Sadly, the UK, as a US client state, is already feeling the undertow of Trumpianism sucking at its freedoms. I hope countries outside the anglosphere are less affected...
I think we all have a right to comment on - and be concerned about - US politics. The US has set itself as “the leader of the free world” for decades, it has been accepted as the leader of the west and has made corresponding demands on the rest of us accordingly. That gives us all skin in the US game.
Donald Trump’s playing with tariffs and markets has affected us all directly, and you in Canada, Jillian, more than many of us reading you.
