The folks from ournaturistlife.bsky.social created a naturist “starter pack” that has fifty naturists they deem worth following: https://go.bsky.app/UdV4vK1

There are a few feeds I’ve found, none I’ve particularly followed.

I follow the news feed and a few others. But mostly I just use the Discover and Following feeds. I hope some tech-savvy person starts a Naturism feed, too.

I love the starters packs on that site. I used one yesterday. I will use yours as well.

I was an early adopter of Bluesky, back when it was by invite only, and while it isn’t specifically a naturist site, many naturists have found a home there.

There are a couple of naturism feeds, one I created a while back (the one with the naturist symbol). It tries to exclude the more extreme and pornographic content but sometimes things do get past the gatekeeping.

The biggest complaint about BS from naturists seems to be the automatic classification of simple non sexual nudity as porn. These can be appealed and it used to be that these were reclassified as non sexual nudity quite quickly, although appeals seem to be taking longer.

Posts are first classified by AI which always gets it wrong, and appeals are considered by humans wha can be reasoned with. With increased numbers of users, this process is not as smooth as it could be.

Many can’t be bothered appealing every post, but doing nothing means nothing will ever change.

I was on the site early, too, but basically forgot about it. But with all the goings-on in the past week, I am closing up my X account and moving over to Bluesky. As for nudity, I'm not up to speed on their rules. I never post nude photos, anyway.

Trying to not have yet another social media acct to manage, we've been reluctant to join... However, there does appear to be a mass exodus from Twitter going on so I guess now may be the time...

We'll start adding posts soon. Follow if you like:

I have been on Bluesky since early on when it was by invitation. The only thing that I don't agree with is the fact that the site labels simple nudity as "Adult Content." I already self-label as "Nudity." I respectfully appeal every instance. I was surprised the site went this direction since Jack Dorsey owned Twitter and owns Bluesky. I thought the site would be more nude-friendly. I am the site as TrueBlueNude@bsky.social

I'm still finding my way around Bluesky. But I did a search for "Naturism" last night and it turned up a lot of posts by naturists, with plenty of nudity. I didn't notice an "Adult Content" label, but I'm guessing that only appears when you are creating a post? Anyway, there seem to be a lot of naturists there and some good discussions going on among them. It shows promise.

The site seems to randomly label naturist content. There has been plenty of discussion about this fact by naturists. I just appeal every label politely. It is just a departure from the full access as allowed by X.

Have you checked your settings? There is a setting for allowing all adult content. There is also the ability to deny adult content but still allow nonsexual nudity. Whether something is sexual or nonsexual is up to the bot that checks messages for content and I can see how a bot wouldn't have very good judgement. Also there's an inevitable gap between when something is posted and the bot gets to it.

Blue Sky is trying to thread the nonsexual nude needle in an area where human oversight is impossible.

Dorsey deleted his personal Blue Sky account in 2023. He left BlueSky in May of 2024. Dorsey has since promoted X as a “freedom technology,” urging users to stay on the platform.

Having been on BlueSky for quite some time now, I can say that BlueSky is (at least so far) a naturist/nudist friendly platform by and large.

There are already some active feeds such as :

A good starter pack has also already been created:

I may still be so free and mention both my BlueSky Acvount and the one from Team Naturist International here 😉

I don't understand why anyone would add another social media account when Substack meets all of those needs with Notes and Chat. Instead of spreading ourselves all over, why not encourage everyone to gather here?

Expand full comment

I get what you are saying, but people sign on to sites like X and Bluesky for more than naturism. They can still gather on substack as well. But I find it nice on Bluesky to have feeds with a variety of subjects to peruse, including naturism. Plus, not everyone in the global naturism community knows substack exists, so naturists who are on substack may post their articles on Bluesky and enlighten them. And, of course, Bluesky is free, whereas not everything is free on substack.

I don't get the need for yet more social media accounts either, for all aspects of my life. I don't get why people are leaving Twitter (as I knew it) in droves, now. Why wait until the Muskovite gets to be part of the orange administration? If people dislike him and what he stands for, he was pretty clear about what he stood for at the time of the takeover, why not leave back then? Is being a designated inner Trumpite worse than being his biggest cheerleader for some time now? Where were all those lines of conscience 18 months ago that have been crossed now?

Is there a sweep-stake being run on when Y merges with Untruth AntiSocial? Or for when one calls out the other for being woke?

I might step on a few toes with this, but it all seems like another Sheeple moment.

Without getting too deeply into politics, I think the last straw for many was the appointment of Musk to the government efficiency post. I explained my reasoning in a post on another site here called The Montreal Dispatch.

Now that I have had a bit of time to familiarize myself with Bluesky, I am liking it more than X. I'll leave it at that. But there are many naturists on Bluesky now, and they are posting a lot that I see, whereas I was seeing very few naturism posts on X anymore.

Here's the link to aforementioned post:

Firstly, if you've deactivated your X account after being concerned about your personal information being available to undesirables I hope this means that you no longer have any of that information on X. Whether that means visible to you or on any backups that they may have. Social media is notoriously difficult to remove all traces of any former presence on their platforms. Whether it be the more notorious platforms like the Meta ones or those that some think are more 'trustworthy' like Google and Apple, many have been found to have copies of your files and data that were not deleted when accounts were 'closed'. Some have been found to have copies of photos and other files, which were originally uploaded to the various cloud backups, sometimes without users even knowing that this was happening, when the user had 'closed' their accounts and felt that they'd gone through all possibilities quite meticulously.

I'm not looking to make anyone worry, but social media does have a bad rep on many scores. Especially if it is a free service, so our data is most likely to be what they profit from.

Thanks for the link to your more detailed reasoning.

My earlier comment was not so much a response to your personal actions, I referred to people leaving in droves. Wondering why there seemed to be this sudden rush when Musk has been part of Trump's 'gang' for quite some time and it seemed obvious that he'd end up being a part of the future administration (I'm not sure why an 'efficiency' Tsar gets to meet the Iranian UN ambassador though!). It seemed to be pretty clear that X was pushing for Trump and sharing user information with his aides ages ago.

I joined BlueSky on Monday and I like it. I have two Twtr accounts: the nudist one with a pseudonym username (which I haven’t done much with lately) and my main one used mostly for news and politics. The thing is, I originally opened my main account years ago for business networking, and it has my real name on it, but as I post more about politics (and my political opinions wouldn’t be very popular in the town where my business is located), I’d like to shift my political social media identity to a pseudonym.

TLDR: I’m trying to decide how to use my BlueSky account and whether to combine naturism and politics/news into the same account, thereby coming out of the closet, as it were, as a naturist (even though it would be under a pseudonym) or just have two separate accounts.

Expand full comment

To me the question of combining a naturist with a general purpose account depends on your community. How important is anonymity as a nudist too you? If everybody on your block found out you were a naturist and saw your pics, how would it affect you?

I used to be a lot bolder. I even had custom "INUDIST" licence plates. But then we moved to a very conservative community and since then have became more low key.

Expand full comment

Okay, upon reflection, it seems it would be best to maintain two separate accounts because the people who are there for politics probably wouldn’t appreciate nudist content and vice versa. The problem is that I opened and started using my BlueSky account under the pseudonym I use for nudist social media (see username listed for this post). Now I have to figure out how to unwind that and what pseudonym/identity to adopt for the non-nudist side.

Thank-you for the article on Blue Sky. I have a Blue Sky account. It was founded by the Twitter's founder and has all the same features. With the added feature of being user based. Which a like a lot better than the current social media. I have not logged into my Blue Sky account in a while. I will have to do that and add the publisher of this article.

When I went there, it looks like a bot searches images for potentially "adult" content. A Bluesky member can go into their preferences and enable or disable "adult" content. There are 4 subcatagories available for more detailed control.

Adult Content

Explicit sexual images.

Sexually Suggestive

Does not include nudity.

Graphic Media

Explicit or potentially disturbing media.

Non-sexual Nudity

E.g. artistic nudes.

You have the options of Show, Warn and Hide. (Default is hide.) If you disable the adult content, you still have the option to separately enable or disable nonsexual nudity.. People who post nude content might want to mention these options. I don't think most people go into their settings very deep and I have no idea how the bot will differentiate between the 4 categories.

Since I did very little on X to begin with, another social app just doesn't seem useful. I'll take a look at it though.
