I think I am slowly drifting away from nudism/naturism and I am just interested in recreational nudity without all the -ism parts. I just enjoy being naked when the climate is favorable and the company - if any - is accepting. Not interested in being a voice in the wilderness or proselyting or even being particularly social. Less stress that way. Does that make sense?

I get the sentiment, Fred. It is next to impossible to feel inspired about much these days with so much suffering going on in Ukraine and all the uncertainty on the geopolitical scene for the whole world.

And I think the vast majority of people who embrace naturism to any degree do so from a recreational point of view, and that is just fine.

But only a small number write about naturism, first and foremost, I think, because we like to write. When we are not writing about naturism, we're writing about something else in our blogs and such.

I see you as a journalist at heart. You enjoy sharing your naturism adventures with other people, much as a travel writer enjoys sharing their journeys. And you do it so well. The readers here enjoy your posts very much.

So, when the spirit moves you, maybe you can share some of your freehiking experiences in California -- a place so many of us dream about a la California Dreaming -- in posts here.

I'd like to see more of that here: posts by members showing naturism life in their corners of the world.

California is no longer the place to dream about that it once was. It is too hot, too crowded and too expensive. Traffic jams in the more popular parks and wall to wall bodies at the beach. Most of the nudist resorts and free beaches I used to visit are gone with no new replacements. We've been in a severe drought for a decade now, fire season is all year, and I'm really getting tired of triple digit highs lasting for weeks at a time.

I have to travel far and hike deep to see the place it once was.

I am still hopeful. I started an account on twitter where I document my nudist life and will continue to do so. I have totally private back yard and I hope to spend a lot of naked time out there once warm weather hits. for those who don't know my twitter handle is'@oldnudistguy'. I hope to hear from fellow nudists on twitter about what are doing in their lives.

I know that British Naturism saw a pretty big jump in membership during the pandemic. A lot of people there, apparently, became garden naturists (in their backyards). As for escapism, I'm not sure if it is perceived that way. Perhaps it is.
