I think I mentioned my blogs here before. They aren't specifically nudist blogs but they have a fair amount of nudist content.

Last few months I have been somewhat shut down as far as hiking goes. I have a damaged ACL and on top of that I've developed plantar fasciitis. Not sure when I'll get back into the swing of things. Through inactivity I seem to have put on a few unwelcome pounds.

Tonight I'm going to the Two Roads Theater in Studio City for the Nude Comedy LA show. We haven't had one for many months due to the COVID situation. The theme tonight will be "April Ghouls." It is a comedy/improv/variety show where all the performers and guests are nude. It is sponsored by AANR, SoCal Naturists, and the Clothing Optional B&B Network.

That's my current life and times.

Sorry to hear you are unable to go hiking, Fred. We all know through your columns how much you love to freehike. But tonight's comedy show sounds like a blast! A review of the show here would be welcome -- I'm sure we would all like to hear more about it!

You have my sympathy Fred, I did a ACL nearly 5 years ago now. It was so difficult getting much sleep for several weeks, I am quite a restless sleeper so I was constantly waking with my knee in pain. I also realised how poor many of the local pavements are here, anything more than a few degrees off of level was not fun to walk on, nor was going up stairs/steps. After a couple of months and no help from the health service with a recovery programme I started doing yoga, actually a nude yoga class held in a nearby town. It definitely helped a lot, not doing things that stressed the knee joint obviously, but gradually pushing things. In general I'm back up to speed, doing long hikes, cycling quite a lot, walking to and from work etc. Occasionally I must sleep in a stupid position and it aches for a couple of days, but glass half full, it could be far worse.

I understand how much you must miss your hikes, especially as it is spring and there is so much nature to encounter.

Get well soon.

Doc now sez he thinks it is a patella tendon strain. He grabbed my knee and tweaked it an pulled it and twisted it and decided it was not a torn ACL. That is a very good thing. I can function with cortisone shots and a knee brace.

The cortisone seems to have helped my heels a bit. The shot in the knee spills over a little to the rest of the body. I have a podiatry appointment in June for heel injections.

I am hoping to be in good enough condition to do the Bare to Breakers in May. My grand plans for freehiking across Joshua Tree National Park may have to wait until the fall. I doubt if I'll be fit to do it before it gets too hot this spring.

A good post Jill, eliciting some very interesting comments. Reading about folks actually able to spend time outdoors naked, while I’m sitting inside watching the snow melt leaves my soul and mind strongly focused on my early morning (sunrise) swims.

The fresh, smooth tingle of the water directly on my skin is already calling….

Maybe the first few dips will be in my spring wet suit….. yup I admit to wimpism !

Maggie and I went down to the lake yesterday. Snow is still very hard. It's going to be a while yet, Ron.

Send some of that here. Snowpack is 38% of normal and we're having the first heat advisory of the year. Temps in the mid-90s.

Jillian, thank you for the opportunity to mention my new blog.

A Comfort of Naturists is my collection of thoughts on Nudity, Naturism and society's difficulty in accepting people with a clothing-optional philosophy.

Inspiration for these posts comes from various places. Often it starts with an idea or a statement, which usually becomes the article headline. Sometimes I will get an idea for another piece while I am writing, and sometimes the inspiration comes from discussions with contacts from other social media platforms.

I write these articles as I feel inspired to, rather than as a source of income or out of a sense of duty, so new articles may not turn up at regular intervals, although I hope to keep posting new material as often as I can.

Living in New Zealand, we are just heading into Autumn where the weather is cooling off and the days are getting shorter. While the opportunities for outdoor nudity are reducing, there are still plenty of chances to enjoy the great outdoors naturally.

Congratulations on your new blog! I'll sign up for newsletters there, too.

Like you, I don't do this newsletter for income. But any income that does come in encourages me to keep at it regularly, unlike my personal blog (at jillianpage.com) that is a longtime free blog that I don't post to often enough these days.

I've always wanted to visit Australia and New Zealand. My g/f and I enjoy TV programs produced down there, and I have to say there are some excellent programs. Right now, we're watching the Rake series, on the Knowledge TV site in Canada. It is such a smart series all around with excellent acting. Also loved the series 800 Words.

Enjoy your autumn!

Thank you for your comments and for following my blog. I have always wanted to visit Canada. My father was born in Joliette in Quebec, and I have yet to get there. Canada is on my bucket list of places to visit.

I am back from spending a month in total in Cuba, on Cayo Santa Maria (north coast). The beach is fabulous, and I got in a 90 minute nude walk almost every day walking from my hotel (Melia Las Dunas) westward to the next property (Melia Buena Vista). I would see naturalists nesting at intervals along the beach, and nod to other naturist walkers. I tended to walk in the later afternoon when many of the tourists had left the hotel beachfronts so had to skirt very few textile folks (if in groups, with younger teens, or only women; I just walk past mixed gender couples with a modicum of discretion depending on how i read the situation). Daytime temperatures in high 20s up to 32 degrees Celsius. No white stripes for me!

Good to know you can still go nude at Cayo Santa Maria, it was about 17 years ago that we were there, stopped off for a few days relaxation at the end of a month of packing in as much of everything else that Cuba can offer.

ah April.. well, first off, i have heard so much about podcasts etc. but have very little of an idea how to see or listen to one.. something about needing an app.. well not there yet.... But, April, in the valley of the sun(the correct term, as i understand is we are in a "Basin" and not a valley) the warmer weather and always sunny, allows me to run around nude in our private back yard, the cool grass on my feet. we do some sunning but now is the month where i am getting the pool ready to be uncovered and jumped into, at the beginning of May when it gets hot out and the pool water is warmed up enough....

Mmm. April sounds quite fresh and kind in your area, Joel. As for podcasts, you don't need an app to listen. Just click on to the page hosting the podcast, such as Naked Age one above, and click on the podcast. I usually listen to podcasts on my smartphone.

You can download them and listen to them in your chosen digital music player on your device(s) if you don't want to stream them, or plan to listen to them somewhere that is beyond the reach of the internet. The podcasts that Jill has linked to are available to download as .mp3 files on The Naturist Living Show site.

The autumn (fall) weather is still behaving in Auckland NZ, so the last couple of weeks we’ve been making the very most of it. Still swimming everyday among other things outdoors.

I’ve been sticking to a recent line of thought on my blog that it’s not the public we need to convince that nudity is okay. It’s naturists/nudists that need to really believe that it’s okay.

My latest thoughts on this are here: https://themystrd.zone/blog/actingmorenaturally/

Sounds nice. We got hit with a major snow dump this week. Sigh . . .

I find it quite interesting how slowly actual temperatures trail seasonal changes. IE: How much longer it takes sea temperatures to drop and land temperatures to rise. It’s so obvious when you see a documentary explaining it. Prior to that, listening to popular media, it’s portrayed more like a light switch.

Season changes, days are longer, ergo temperatures should be higher.

From memory it takes 3 months for the ground in the northern hemisphere to defrost after snow cover.

One thing I find particularly irritating is the meteorological seasons. I grew up with astronomical seasons so hearing people cheerily declare it’s spring/autumn March 1st just prompts a groan and eye roll from me.

WeatherWatch.co.nz has long said New Zealand has a two month summer (Jan, Feb) and a two month winter (July, August). The rest of the year New Zealand is transitioning through Autumn and Spring-like weather patterns thanks to our position on planet earth.”

They record the sea temperatures from the end of the pier in our town. There is a small weather station located on the promenade, I walk past it quite often on the way to and from work, stopping there in winter when the air temperature is minus something, plus wind chill, and seeing that the sea temperature was 10 C that morning requires some imagination stretching

Expand full comment

That’s a really great example Nick. Not only does it take a huge amount of energy to raise the sea temperature. Once warm, that energy is held a long time. When the atmosphere is overheated, the thermal energy in the ocean has no where to go. IE heat rises, but only when the place it rises to is cooler. Hence the big concern with an overall climate shift toward longer warmer periods, further trapping heat where it is.

I'm a French guy living in the Alps who practices nature sports: hiking, snowshoeing, kayaking... naked whenever possible. I created a blog about naturist hiking that, as a former photographer, I try to illustrate in a lively way. This blog is already more than ten years old. The texts are in French but with an English translation, made with an online translator, so can be somewhat approximate.

It's too early to say, but I don't see the new ownership being an issue for naturists on Twitter. If anything, we may have more freedom of expression there. However, many people outside of the wider naturism community there are saying they will leave Twitter. I don't think it is the wisest investment Musk has ever made, but who knows.

How cool! I will check out both those links. I am looking forward to 15-20C temperatures in these parts. It's still below zero here at night, and today's high will be 4 or 5C, apparently.

It should be our turn to enjoy more outdoor nudity in the northern hemisphere, but like Jill in Canada we've seen cold temperatures and snow in the UK, so not to much sympathy from here!

I saw about the storms on the east coast of Australia, sounded like the beaches at Bondi, Manly and further north on the NSW coast were badly hit, I even saw one story that said the beach at Bondi had been washed away. My local nude beach in Sussex, England has suffered a similar fate over our winter, something that is happening repeatedly these days with sea levels rising. The beaches in Barcelona, and for a long stretch north of the city, have also been swept away in recent storms there too.

I'll check out your links.
