I don't know about hockey but pickleball would be a possibility.

I've never skated or skied in my entire life but I have run around in the snow a bit in Michigan. Streaked a strip mall in subzero F weather once on a dare - think I was 16. It was New Year's Eve, IIRC.

I have freehiked in weather in the high 30s F and if you are working hard, the heat output can neutralize the cold. The instant I stop, clothing becomes necessary.

I tried joining Substack just for a chance to make a comment, but I think it went awry. I'm happy to comment now, though.

What I had wanted to say was "Dream on, Jillian. Slipping on the ice with a bare (inset any body part here) would be seriously upsetting."

At my age, any “nude spectator” sport is a great idea!

About a decade ago there was a very good nude rugby team you may have heard of, the Nude Blacks in Dunedin, NZ. They were not only a big public tourist attraction (local and abroad) but held competitive matches against professional teams -- the Harlem Globetrotters of the rugby world -- interspersing showmanship stunts with serious play. Many games in Dunedin were in cold temps, with spectators wearing big puffy jackets and wool caps while the players were nude. While popular among the majority of NZlanders and foreigners I understand a tiny minority complained incessantly about them and they ended up having to disband. There are still some videos to be found on YouTube and Vimeo.

Wow, so some crazy people wear clothes to play sports?! I thought it was normal to participate nude :-)

Seriously, the UK has been cold (that means anything below 0 C to me) for the last few weeks but ice hockey and other 'cold' sports are not that big here compared to ones that get played on grass etc. There is a national ice hockey league but the only ski slopes in most of the UK are artificial ones. I've seen photos of nude skiers in I believe it was the Alps, so I doubt that your acquaintance is the only naked cross-country skier. Even when everywhere is coated in white wet stuff in its various forms it can be quite sunny and provided its not blowing a gale like last night, high 80s-90 mph, as long as you're active being nude can be comfortable. I've hiked nude with a few organised groups, one has events year round and even on quite cold(UK cold!) days its warm enough to be naked while on the move if the wind chill factor is low or not present, it feels colder if we stop.

As for playing more active team sports like volleyball, miniten, badminton etc while nude it doesn't really register that we're all naked when playing them at nudist clubs or beaches, everyone else is naked, its normal to be nude there. I've not played nude football as a match(the version played worldwide outside N America) it was more like a gentle kick-about on flat sand when the tide is out at nude beaches, that didn't seem to appear strange to other beach users. It most likely would do at non-nude beaches, but I won't be putting that to the test today, the rollers are about 5m high today and its about 8 C.

An interesting musing Jillian, keep warm.
