Here in Oklahoma, we always have ticks, naturally occurring climate wet or dry seems to make them more present or less present. We always use a spray on the feet/shoes/socks and lower body to prevent them and it's very effective. We took a nude hike just a day after it rained on the trails at our resort and failed to use the spray. Result was 3 ticks.

I mentioned ticks to you recently Fred, you said that its often too dry in your part of the naked hiking world. So, is this another change due to climate change?

We had an extremely wet winter here, as opposed to being in drought for decades.. The mountains are still snowy. IIRC Mammoth Ski Resort was still open on the 4th of July. Rain increases tick and mosquito populations and insects in general

This year it is a bit hotter than normal but I don't know that I can blame the rain on climate change. The pattern has been drought for quite a while and THAT was being blamed on climate change..

I'd love to be out there hiking right now because the mountains are beautiful but my knee is not cooperating.

An interesting, timely, appropriate piece.

Good call!

Living in Montreal we’ve been pretty much protected by the cold winters from ticks until the past few years. Global climate warming has seen a growing tick “invasion” each year to the point where prevention and awareness in every walk of life is a necessity….. thanksl!

There are a few high tech fibre blends in techy very thin underwear that will feel and look naked while keeping the bug worry away……

That might protect the groin area but the rest of me would still be exposed. 😊 I'd need to use bug spray regardless.

Part of freehiking for me is the vulnerability. When I hike, I consider myself naked. Naked is vulnerable. Naked is exposed. I like to be naked and exposed to the sun and wind and rain and poison oak and bugs and stinging nettles and the occasional wandering bear. That's just my thing.

I am curious about the material though. It is possible to end up in such a bug infested environment that true nudity isn't practical, even with insect repellent.
