There is a beach area on North Padre Island in Texas that is designated as a national park. Padre Island National Seashore. The extreme northern part of this area butts up to an open state beach. Many clothing optional minded people go around the barrier that seperates the two beaches and, without paying entry fees to the park, walk a mile or so of beach to enjoy the sun, sea, sand nude. As a habit, when walking back to their vehicles, they readily pick up trash and debris. The National Park Rangers, knowing that these intrepid nudists are doing their part in cleaning the beach, normally leave them alone.

What better way to clean up an area, then doing it nude!

In, my version of naturism, I accept my human nature: I am an omnivore. I try to eat healthy in terms of natural ingredients, sustainably produced, humanely treated, but I eat it all.

Realistically, I don't see naturism saving the world from anything. I'm a nudist for reasons of comfort, health, and convenience. I'm also an omnivore and an outdoorsman. I enjoy nude social events, and I appreciate the fact that my naked lifestyle makes a smaller ecological footprint, miniscule though the difference may be. Even though I'm a nudist and an outdoorsman, I probably wouldn't be considered a naturist, although I'm sure we have much in common. I do think the world would be a much better place if nudism and naturism were to become more mainstream. I dream of a day when I can do yard work, take out the garbage, and even take a walk in the neighborhood and chat with the neighbors without clothing and without being thought strange or worse.

Naturism is a way to respect the differences & eventually may help to stop the wars as the wars happen only by disrespecting the differences. Once wars will be stopped, the mankind, the earth will be saved. I know that this can happen only in imagination. However only the naturism can lead us towards war-free path. When any naturist loves to drop his/her clothes to remain naked in front of others, he/she starts respecting others even having differences. Naturism lifestyle which combines vegetarian diet & minimalism approach for the things brings personal, societal & environmental benefits. These naturism benefits will save the world, directly & indirectly

For the last couple of years and for health reasons, I've been practically vegan, but I've been vegetarian since 1976. And yet, I recognize that my species is THE keystone predator for the planet. We have a place in the global food web. Sometimes I wonder whether, if we had an agriculture that imitates and integrates with our ecosystem, a "permaculture," we might have a duty to eat flesh. My vegetarianism grew out of reading Frances Moore Lappe's book, Diet for a Small Planet, promoting a trophic pyramid diet. (You eat grain and beans that are now grown as livestock feed, resulting in greater economy and an improvement in human welfare. This was a practice for Richard Ungewitter, and other lebensreformers at the turn of the twentieth century.) I don't believe there is an existentially correct diet, as there is no existentially correct mode of dress. "Nude when practical, clothed when necessary."

As I near 68, I have let go of most of my desire to be an activist promoting naturism. I greatly appreciate the efforts, though, of those who are inspired to do so. As a second generation nudist/naturist, I've shared naked times with my parents and my adult children. It's just simply the way I live (as much as our eating a whole food/plant based diet). My partner and I are lucky to be members of a local nudist resort (OliveDellRanch.com). Other than being at clothing optional beaches, resorts, select camping trips or being naked in the garden, I've also enjoyed lifeguarding at naturist events for many years. Helping to promote such events was part of the job and we enjoyed it.

Naturist retreats could look into permaculture gardens, and land care as an option for outdoor communal activities.

I can see how veganism might be the ethical choice if you are concerned about animal welfare, but sadly, unlike naturism, veganism is not a healthy as far as optimizing our bodies' performance and well being. The trouble with not consuming animal products is that you have to go to great lengths to supplement with vitamins and nutrients like B12, Creatine, Taurine, Omega 3 (DHA/BHA) K2 and others. In addition, far more carbohydrates are required to be eaten if you get your protein from plant sources and plant proteins are not 'complete proteins', in that each source does not contain all of the amino acids you need to build body tissue, and so you have to combine various plant sources to get all of the amino acids that you need.

As humans, we evolved as omnivores and that is why our digestive tracts are proportionally much smaller than that of other primates.

My approach is to choose sustainably raised animal products and wild caught fish that is not endangered.

As far as the environmental impact of animal husbandry, we would do better as far as climate change focusing one hundred percent on eliminating fossil fuels rather than eliminating cows which actually convert indigestible (for us) grass growing on sometimes land unsuitable for crops, into complete nutritionally dense food. Industrial-scale production of crops like soy, corn and wheat can be more damaging to the environment than animal husbandry because huge swathes of land are dedicated to mono-crops that eliminate any biodiversity and require pesticides and soil-depleting herbicides to grow those crops. Cows grazing in grassland, however, can sustain the environment and the soil through natural recycling of carbon and fertilization of the soil.

As a vegetarian naturist, I agree. One of my local clubs is the best naturist physical environment, but they don’t really foster a naturist vibe. It’s actually disappointing. From the outside, the activities they promote seem almost hedonistic. They are not at all outside the nudist ideal, just very fun focused. They do not promote things like beauty pageants, more game type activities, which, like I said are fun.

I’m hoping to work with them to add a set of naturist activities, to promote the natural connection we all share.

If we can share a connection with nature, and our natural state, we may be able to help many societal challenges, from body acceptance to climate change.

Do you know or know of Beth Stephens and Annie Sprinkle? Seem like allies. 😉 I married the earth with them and 50 others in 2010! https://www.sierraclub.org/sierra/take-earth-date-inside-ecosexuality-movement

In my mind how naturism helps the environment is very obvious. Far less need for clothing therefore a huge reduction in demand for natural resourses. Couple that with a drastic reduction in detergents usage etc. Though very significant this is just the tip of the iceburg of benefiets of naturism.
