Some naturists/nudists are wondering if they will lose rights to social nudity amidst U.S. 'culture war'
If you needed any more proof that America is the centre of the universe for the Western world, we got it last month as politicians in Republican-led states ramped up their so-called “culture war” against what they love to refer to as “woke leftists.”
The ripple effects of their attacks on civil rights are being felt by naturists in countries like Australia and the U.K. as well as the U.S., as concern grows that people may lose their rights to be naked in current clothing-optional places.
And a report out of Australia about a woman who was warned not to be naked in front of children in the change room at a beach has some wondering where the restrictions on civil rights might end. An official in Australia reportedly said the warning to the woman was part of the “family-friendly rules” to protect children, which is essentially the same reason Republicans are using to justify their restrictions on Americans’ civil rights.
In the U.S., well-known commentator Brian Krassenstein, who is opposed to what the Republicans are doing, nevertheless wrote the following tweet:
I’m not sure how Grassenstein feels about naturism/nudism, but some naturists on Twitter were dismayed by the tweet, a la “please don’t give DeSantis any more ideas.”
But it is not a stretch of the imagination in the current political climate to think there will be restrictions placed on the naturism/nudism community when it comes to “protecting children” in the U.S. and beyond.
I offer the above for possible discussion in this monthly forum post. If anyone does want to discuss it, I ask that you keep the discussion to naturism/nudism. The issues surrounding other restrictions of civil rights — abortion rights, LGBTQ rights, voting rights, book banning etc. — by Republicans are off-topic for this forum. I mention this now because the last time I went off topic here — about guns — several members complained and some even unsubscribed.
So, let’s keep any civil rights discussion here related to naturism/nudism, please.
Meanwhile, this is your monthly forum to discuss all things naturism/nudism.
So, take it away, folks.
And a warm welcome to all the new members here.
Cheers
Jillian
It's curious that people claim their new laws are to "protect the children", but can't cite a single peer-reviewed study to support their law.
Many nudists here are politically conservative and support the previous Oval Office Occupant. And nudist resorts and beaches bring a lot of business to Florida. So it'd be foolish for Governor DeSantis to restrict nudism in any way. But he tried to take on Disney to fire up the radical right wing. (And is losing, but that's another, er, strip -- threads are for textiles!)
